International Coffee Day: Coffee Favourites 2017

Coffee is the sweet nectar of the gods that has been bestowed upon us undeserving humans. If there was a genie that gave me three wishes, I would wish for a portable coffee tap that contains infinite litres in my purse.

I internally cringe at people who say “I don’t like coffee” out loud because why would you want to suffer your life like this? Like mannn, here’s a self-care tip: have some of the damn coffee.

Kidding aside, I respect people who don’t have the taste for coffee. Everyone has their own preferences. Personally, I love coffee and tea! Both coffee and tea contain doses of caffeine, which is some sort of an anti-depressant drug. So naturally, you feel energized and happier after coffee and tea intake.

I usually have coffee in the morning, or while I’m reading a book from my Kindle Paperwhite. Indeed, coffee + books = perfection.

In celebration of International Coffee Day, I am going to share with you (in no particular order) my coffee favourites for 2017 (and for the years before this blog’s birth!). These are the coffee that I have loved chugging since the dawn of time, and I honestly need one at the minute!

1. McDonald’s Coffee Float (Philippines)

First in my list of coffee favourites is this Mcdonald’s Coffee Float! I used to live in a building flat with McDonald’s on the first floor when I was in college. Obviously, I had easy access to this sweet beverage every time I left the flat. Truth be told, I wouldn’t have survived my student years without it.

There’s just one thing I hate about it: sometimes it tastes like watered down ice cream because there’s not enough coffee to begin with. I suspect they reuse the coffee grounds in making the actual coffee but it is yet to be confirmed.

TIP: If it tastes like watered down ice cream, just return it to the counter and ask for a new one. It’s always better if you’re a resident customer and have made friends with the crew. Crew friends make it the best.

2. Starbucks’ Iced & Hot White Chocolate Mocha

My Iced White Chocolate Mocha from the other night. I love it with non-fat milk and no whipped cream!

You will never see me in the mall without sipping this 590ml coffee goodness. I discovered this when a classmate came in to school with the hot version of this and I was curious so I took a sip. Believe me, it was the time my life changed! Since then, it has been the first on my list of coffee favourites.

I always order the one with non-fat milk and no whipped cream because I have some sort of milk allergies and full fat milk destroys my tummy. You can only imagine what I went through after having one with full fat!

3. Dunkin’ Donuts’ Brewed Coffee

I am the happiest when I get to drink this brewed coffee from Dunk Donuts with their Choco Marble donut. It’s just the perfect combination and I won’t have it any other way.

A Dunkin’ Donuts branch was directly across my school years before, so whenever I felt like getting coffee for a quick fix in between classes, I just cross the street and grab a cup (and a donut of course.)

4. Al Khair Turkish Coffee (Saudi Arabia)

While I love getting my coffee done by a barista, I also love making my own coffee in the comforts of our home. Truthfully, I’m not a fan of Turkish coffee, but I’ve asked my dad to get me some coffee grounds one day and instead of the usual, he got this.

I tried it, and it tasted like the regular brewed coffee that I have the tastes for! It is also cheaper than most ground coffee found in the Saudi groceries. It’s now part of the weekly grocery list needless to say.

Thoughts

I don’t think I will ever be able to survive this life without a cup of coffee. It’s been my go-to drink of all time and I’ve been drinking it since the 2nd grade! Can you imagine?

This list hopefully grows in time as I explore more coffee varieties from all over the world. I’m planning on trying every available coffee this world has to offer, and nothing’s gonna stop me, not with caffeine in my system!
